Is the island life for you? Or is the island getaway for you? Both issues would mean a completely different list of pros and cons. Investment purposes, island homes tend to hold their value, as the country is clearly at a premium on the island!
U.S. population has access to many islands in the Atlantic, Caribbean, U.S. Virgin Islands and the Pacific. If you plan to buy another home on the island, you have to do the same soul searching that will be needed for a permanent move.
Many families have bought the island cabins as a group buy, and on weekends and vacations are focused on casual 'time share' basis in the family. It is common however, for weekend getaways, where children can roam freely on the weekends and holidays, and every now and again they will all plan to appear together! This is a great idea to promote family unity. It also keeps the costs, such as boats, fishing rods, repairs, etc. can be shared.
, however, that it was different suddenly decides to sell everything and move to the island. For some, that does sound idyllic and others can bring to the claustrophobia !!
the benefits and pitfalls must be different for every island amenities, climate, environment and many other factors, but there are any general rules island'?
Most of the inhabitants who decide continuity will probably opt for an island with a ferry service. There are times when the sea is too rough for a little row boat, or motor boat, and they do not want to feel isolated. Of course, for many people this isolation is exactly what they want!
Sometimes the ferry schedule may mean that when you come home late (from holiday flight), or the theater you can not make it home on the ferry. Many islands are water taxis that can be booked in advance, or only some people will use your own boat, while others will decide to forward to spend the night in a hotel.
Another problem with living on the island is that often you may have to worry about where to park your car. Is the island is large enough to have a ferry, or you do not have to leave your car every time you go over the small ferry? In the latter case, you will need to negotiate a parking lot near the ferry - although this is often provided for
.Such other inconveniences, like coming home without sugar, is actually just accepted the part of island life, and easy to customize. That's what neighbors are for, and the community glue is strong on the islands!
No matter what the inconvenience to islanders, peace and the feeling of being "away from it all" is the most important. If you are working from the island, it takes only a few short weeks for the feeling of peace permeated her whole being. This happens minute you step on the ferry to cross the ocean every night on his island home.
Perhaps this is the song J. Earnhart, and reproduced in the magazine, "Island Life", it sums up the best:
If you have ever lived on the island
If ever you've lived by the sea;
You'll never go back to the mainland
When your spirit is released.
If you've ever smelled the ocean
or tasted the salt in the air;
You'll know that you have found refuge
that's rare, precious and rare.
If you ever see the whales play
or watch eagles in flight;
You'll remember, again, why you live here
and why it feels so right.
If you've ever seen a sunset
as the ferry passed the coast;
You've seen the beauty of the island
who will be with you forever more.
If you've ever heard of seagulls
waves, foghorn, winds;
Then you heard a song on the island
and sends a peaceful message.
Indeed, if you live on the island
If you are lucky to live near the sea;
You'll never go back to the mainland
as the spirit is released.
